On Tuesday, the CAP and Global Studies diploma programs went to visit the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. This site was the place where Woodstock was held in 1969. Woodstock was a music festival that was held on August 15-18 1969 on a dairy farm in the town of Bethel, New York. It was an extremely influential music festival filled with love, peace, and RAIN. At Bethel Woods, I learned all about the importance of Woodstock in our culture. Woodstock was a response to the draft for the Vietnam War and the war in general. People wanted peace and they got it for those three days. Even though it was raining throughout a lot of the days, people remember Woodstock as one of if not the most influential events in their lives. While the government was fighting for war, upwards of 500,000 people sang for peace. There were performers from Sha Na Na, to Janis Joplin, to Jimi Hendrix and the Who. People said that Jimi Hendrix, “woke them up.” When he played a lot of the people had already left but it was the experience of a lifetime.
