Othello

Jan 6, 2023

This play was monumental for me because this rendition of the play focused very heavily on women's rights and the power that women don’t have until they make it for themselves. At the end of the play, Emilia, Iago’s wife powerfully made a speech stating the unfairness of life and womanhood, and the manipulation that she faced from her husband. Along with the fact that Othello killed Desdemona not because of her, but because of the influence of his “best friend.”

He believed his supposed “advisor” over his wife showing the amount of respect he truly gave her when they were together, but also how much love he had for her. He loved her but had almost no respect and trust in/for her. This play focused on the manipulation and abuse of Emilia by Iago. Giving her bruises and cuts. Seemingly being on the receiving end of his torment. The play also showed Desdemona as a really independent and powerful woman and I really valued that. The play’s take was amazing and I really enjoyed it.
